Second annual Multi-Professional Advanced Practice Conference

Swansea Bay University Health Board, in collaboration with Swansea University, successfully hosted their second annual Multi-Professional Advanced Practice Conference on Thursday, 10th April 2025, at the Days Lounge, Liberty Stadium, Swansea.

With over 100 delegates in attendance, the conference brought together a vibrant community of advanced practitioners, educators, healthcare leaders, and students from across the region to celebrate and share the outstanding work being delivered across the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership, education, and research.

This year’s theme, “Pushing the Pillars,” reflected the innovative and evolving roles of advanced practitioners within contemporary healthcare settings. The day featured a packed agenda of case presentations, keynote talks, and round table discussions showcasing real-world examples of advanced practice transforming patient care in areas including emergency medicine, frailty, respiratory care, primary care, mental health, cardiology, and pharmacy.

Highlights included insightful presentations from experienced ACPs such as Dr Marianne Jenkins on the pathway to consultancy, Nikky Wallis on the evolution from treatment room nurse to advanced practitioner, and Sara Davies on quality improvement in respiratory care. Representatives from Swansea University also shared updates on programme developments and the vital role of academia in supporting the growth and sustainability of the advanced practice workforce.

Delegates had the opportunity to network with peers, engage with sponsors, and explore a series of high-quality posters, culminating in a poster prize award.

The event concluded with a round table discussion chaired by Angharad Ladd, followed by a dynamic Q&A session with a panel of expert practitioners and educators.

This conference reaffirmed the crucial contribution of advanced practitioners across all sectors of healthcare and underscored the importance of collaborative, cross-institutional efforts in driving forward advanced clinical practice in Wales and beyond.

A special thank you goes to Caroline Morgan, Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology at Swansea Bay University Health Board, who did an exceptional job coordinating and leading the planning of this year’s event. This marks the second consecutive year that Caroline has taken on this pivotal leadership role, supported by a dedicated and collaborative team—her commitment and organisational excellence were instrumental in delivering such a successful and inspiring conference.
